Recently the MSUCorps program for AmeriCorps week held the 1st Alumni picnic and Mini-Repair Affair service event. We are very fortunate to have partners like Frontier Housing, Morehead Habitat for Humanity, MSU YouthBuild program, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, MSU Academic & Outreach, Morehead Center for Regional Engagement, Campus compact Vista Program, Wal-Mart and the Morehead City Park.
At the picnic, the MSUCorps program donated an automobile to a local Morehead family who was in need of a car. The donation ceremony was documented by Vanessa Overholser and appeared in the Tuesday, May 19 edition of The Morehead News.
MSUCorps would like to acknowledge the individuals and businesses that truly made the donation possible.
Mr. & Mrs. White donated the vehicle to the MSUCorps program.
Kay Stiner of Christian Social Services helped locate the needy family.
Glen Sorrell and the staff at Major Brands donated and installed new rear wheel bearings and new serpentine belts.
Scott Napier and Wal-Mart donated and installed 4 brand new tires.
Steve Taylor of Wholesale Auto Parts donated a new battery.
Aaron Roberts and his staff repaired the exhaust system.
Larry Fannin’s Chevrolet donated an oil change and filter.
Jennings Auto Repair also donated 5qts of oil.
MSUCorps members Tom Perry, Mary Williamson, Donita Cox and Courtney Salyers, Megan Russell donated money to help with gasoline, new wiper blades, paint for the hubcaps and transmission and fuel system additives.
MSUCorps member Clark Gordon approached local businesses and individuals about helping with the project, performed diagnosis and minor repairs to the vehicle and his son Ian Gordon helped clean the car inside and out.
The donation of a decent car to one needy family is a small step improving the lives of the region’s economically challenged, but MSUCorps would like the event to stand as an example of the commitment that Morehead’s business community has to the cause.
THANK YOU!!!
