Nov. 8, 2011 —     Six statewide races were on today’s ballot. Here are the unofficial precinct totals for Rowan County:

  • Hung jury ends murder trial of Lewis man in traffic deaths

    A Rowan Circuit Court jury deliberated six hours here Tuesday before reporting it was hopelessly deadlocked in the case of Dallas Carpenter, 60, of Emerson in Lewis County, who was on trial for murder in the May 2010 traffic deaths of a Clearfield couple.

    “He was another good reason to be proud of our country.”

    Those words from the Rev. Gene Parr began the tributes to Air Force Staff Sgt. Daniel N. Fannin, a 30-year-old Morehead native who died with three other crew members last month when their MC-12 surveillance aircraft went down in Afghanistan.

  • Olive Hill man arrested in 2011 murder case

    A two-year murder investigation culminated Monday in the arrest of Kyle S. Holbrook, 20, of Olive Hill.

    Holbrook was indicted the same day by an Elliott County grand jury in the April 2011 death of Paul Dillon (Nemo) Bryant, 19, also of Olive Hill.

  • Boyfriend charged with murder

         Casey R. Shay, 26, of Morehead, was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with murder after police found the body of his girlfriend, Cassandra (Cassie) Owens, 21, in the mobile home they shared in East Morehead with their three-year-old daughter.

          City police and Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt were called to a mobile home park in East Morehead Thursday afternoon to investigate a death described as “a possible homicide”.

  • Rowan loses Rocky if redistricting passes

     

    As was nearly the case a year ago, Rowan County would lose State Rep. Rocky Adkins, D-Sandy Hook, under terms of a legislative redistricting bill which cleared a House committee Tuesday.
