The Kentucky Eye Institute should be in its new home by early fall.
A new eye institute facility will be at 175 Beacon Hill, next to Dr. Charles Tingle's new dental offices.
The new location is in the area behind Major Brands off Flemingsburg Road. The local planning commission accepted plans for the eye clinic earlier this year.
The vision for Kentucky Eye Institute had its origin in 1970.
“From its auspicious beginning as one physician, one office private ophthalmology practice, KEI has grown into what is now a full service eye care group,” said Johannes Evans, M.D.
Today, its 13 doctors provide general and sub-specialty ophthalmology and primary care optometry in 15 practice locations throughout central and eastern Kentucky.
“Our Morehead presence first began in 1985, where we occupied offices in the Morehead Clinic until 1999,” Evans said. “Since that time, we have occupied space at 'the top of the hill' on Cave Run Clinic grounds.”
Three KEI doctors provide services in Morehead.
Evans, KEI's senior partner, concentrates his practice in the areas of general ophthalmology, cataract implant surgery and LASIK. He joined KEI in 1990 and provides services locally at St. Claire Medical Center.
Brian T. Nolan, M.D, joined KEI in 1991. His practice is limited to diseases and surgery of the retina and vitreous.
H. Randy Steele, O.D., practices primary care optometry. Dr. Steele, a Morehead resident and Morgan County native, has been with KEI since 1995.
At the new clinic, Evans said there will be space for another health care provider to set up practice.
