SCR offers oxygen therapy

St. Claire Regional has received a new machine promoting wellness and healing to wounds recently. Patients who need this treatment are encouraged to check it out.

“A patient who participates in the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO) treatment breathes in 100 percent oxygen inside a pressurized chamber,” said SCR Outpatient Center RN for Advanced Wound Care Penny Littleton.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy rejuvenates blood cells, decreases swelling and inflammation, improves circulation, increases the body’s ability to fight off infection, clears out toxins, and metabolic waste.

HBO Therapy helps to return wounds damaged by radiation to a healthier state. It also plays a specific role in saving limbs from amputation and it helps to improve the severity of diabetic foot wounds. This method of therapy also treats surgical Margin Flaps and Chronic Refractory Osteomyelitis.

The machine was purchased from Perry Medical approximately four weeks ago and was placed in the Advanced Wound Care office in the SCR Outpatient Center. The reason SCR purchased the machine was to bring the innovative wound care treatment local.

“We have the hyperbaric machine here so that our patients do no have to go to Lexington to obtain treatment,” Littleton added.

Treatments are administered 90 minutes for five days a week and treatments will last from four to six weeks.

“Your treating physician will advise whether or not it’s appropriate for you,” Littleton said. “Everyone who is interested in wanting to know more about the HBO treatment can contact the SCR Outpatient Center.”

SCR Advanced Wound Care and the SCR Outpatient Center are located at 1028 East Main Street next to Aaron’s Best One Tire.
