Respect the flag

The editor:

I am a Combat Veteran of the US ARMY and a lifetime resident of our county. I as many other residents of this county put our lives in harms way to protect our freedom and right as American Citizens. The very symbol of what we were fighting for is the US Flag.

I am writing to express my disgust about how our US flag is being treated and displayed by our Local County and City government agencies. It is appalling how our local “ELECTED” officials are disrespecting the symbol of our freedom, rights and our country.

As an example just this week alone I noticed the US flag in front of the Rowan County Courthouse is ripped torn and faded. The US flag at the Morehead Fire Station near Rowan County Sr. High school has the top grommet torn loose and is just flapping in the wind. Several times in the past I year have noticed the flags in front of our schools being flown with rips and tears in them. What kind of example is this for our children?

This is intolerable as these “ELECTED” officials are disrespecting the symbol of the American citizens who “ELECTED” them, and are just spitting in the face of the Veterans. One of the saddest things is some of these “ELECTED” officials are Veterans themselves. I am positive that this issue will be resolved quickly as this is an “ELECTION” year.
