The editor:
I am writing in regard to the story about the Ten Commandments being stolen from Arby’s restaurant. I want to say what a shame it is that someone felt so compelled by holiness that they were of the opinion that only themselves were entitled to the plaque. I hope that’s the disgraceful reason someone stole it.
Otherwise, the person who did so must be a boring human being. Surely, they wouldn’t watch any sporting events, with all the Catholic crossing of the chest, and kneeling to one knee and pointing toward Heaven to show praise to God when something goes right.
They must not eat Thanksgiving dinner, for they wouldn’t be the type of person to give thanks at the dinner table. I’m sure they don’t celebrate Christmas. Christ’s birthday wouldn’t fit into their repertoire. And I feel quite certain that if they stole a Ten Commandments plaque, then the rising of Christ would never be a part of their Easter.
Any other reason for stealing would just make them a hypocrite. The only peace of mind that we can hope for in this situation is that the person who stole the plaque learns from its eternal message, for they are truly the one in dire need of it.
