On Jan. 9 of this year we lost our home and everything we owned due to a fire at 341 McBrayer Rd. Since about 10 minutes after the fire started there has been a chain of events, or should I say a chain of miracles that has happened, and while we want to show our deepest appreciation for what everyone has done, we also would like to take this time to say just how good God is.
My wife and I have six children, so the first thing on our minds was where are we going to go and what are we going to do about all their clothes? Within 10 minutes we received the first gifts from a young man who walked up and handed me and my son a coat and also a couple of blankets. Next we were offered food and drinks from a neighbor behind us and then from more neighbors, more clothes. Some very dear friends of ours from church (Clearfield Tabernacle First Church of God) showed up: one took two of the children with him to assure they were kept warm and fed while the other took my wife to the store and supplied the baby with diapers, clothes and new bottles.
Another dear friend, who owns the Home Store in Morehead, came and took our oldest son home with her family and kept him for a week. During that week they bought him clothes and shoes so he wouldn’t miss school. That night we were put in the Days Inn (which I can’t say enough good about) by the Ministerial Association, then received supper, which was also paid for.
My wife and I went to bed that Friday night wondering what we were possibly going to do about a place to live with such a large family, but you remember what I said about how good God is, don’t you? By mid day Saturday we had a house! Within 72 hours of the house in Clearfield burning we had received donations from people and organizations and promises from other people and organizations to the extent that everything that we lost in the fire that could be replaced had and would be replaced and also a house to put it in. We now live on a farm where the children are free to roam on over 60 acres and have a creek running through our front yard. All the children have wonderful clothes to wear and beds to sleep in. My wife and I have also been supplied with clothing and a new bed.
This is just a very brief summary of what has happened to us during this experience. I say experience because that is what it has been. To be a direct part of the awesome power of God working through his people is nothing short of an amazing experience. There are so many small personal experiences from God that the paper isn’t big enough to hold them all so just know that God is still very much in control and dearly loves his people.
There are 6912 known languages and all of them have a way of saying thank you. We could say it that many ways and that many times and would still fall short of how we really feel. There is no way we can name all of the people individually who have been sent to our aid. You know who you are and I hope you know how much we love each one of you. I would like to say a special thank you to the Morehead and Farmers Fire Departments, The American Red Cross, The Salvation Army and Christian Social Services, the schools and the churches, above and beyond. Most of all we want to end by thanking the God of Heaven for looking so kindly on his humble servants and to tell everyone that you are all in our prayers and we are indebted to you.
Once again, we thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts. There is no way we could ever tell you what you, as a community, have done for us. You single handedly put our lives back together for us. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
