Smokers shouldn’t complain about new tax

The editor:

I was reading The Morehead News on Tuesday, Feb. 17 about the tax increase on beer and cigarettes. Yes, it is a shame that the smokers have to pay extra for a habit of their own choosing. I smoked for 50 years, 3 packs a day, and I finally quit. I started smoking of my own free will and I quit the same way. In the paper Carol McCarty stated the schools should thank the smokers for filling their lungs with smoke. I don’t recall any schools in the United States telling people to smoke. You smoke because you want to. I smoked because I wanted to and I quit because I wanted to. I did not know how bad smoking would leave a foul smell in your clothing till after I quit. If you enjoy smoking, then quit complaining. You do it of your own choosing.
