DOVES thankful for community support

The editor:

We would like to thank Curves of Morehead for their 11th Annual Food Drive. Without the support of Curves members, the DOVES Domestic Violence Program could not serve the hundreds of victims and their children throughout the year.

DOVES works to end domestic violence through prevention and intervention. The only criterion for receiving services is that the individual has experienced domestic violence.

Every single day, DOVES’ staff goes above and beyond in their mission to stop domestic violence. During the 2008-09 fiscal year, DOVES’ staff answered 2,130 crisis calls and 3,672 information and referral calls. Our staff also provided Legal Advocacy to 416 victims. Throughout the Gateway area, DOVES’ staff provided housing advocacy 351 times for victims of domestic violence. Within the walls of the shelter, there were 10,830 meals made available to our homeless victims and their children. These services are only a handful of services that DOVES of Gateway provides in Rowan, Bath, Montgomery, Morgan, and Menifee counties.

Being a non-profit organization, we have to watch every penny. We say “thank you” for the cans of food, juice, and personal care items. Every single item you donate to us is helping a woman or child in need. This year alone, Curves donated approximately 800 pounds of needed food and personal care items to the DOVES Program.
