Lack of support for teams

The editor:

I would like to express a concern of mine for the lack of support in my opinion of the university’s basketball teams. It is hard for me to comprehend a Division 1 basketball program playing a home conference basketball game with no pep band.

I spoke with the Athletic Director and voiced my opinion with him last night and he explained it wasn’t by their choice. I debated contacting the music department but then since they had no one there, obviously they are not concerned with supporting their basketball team.

I have never attended a basketball game on the collegiate level where the home team didn’t have their pep band except here in Morehead. This goes back to even attending much smaller schools at the Division 2 level. The local high school has a pep band for their team with at least 30 band members.

In my opinion, this is a major injustice to the student athletes who are trying to excel and represent the university on the basketball court to their fullest of their abilities. The pep band can help fire the crowd up, which in turn can lead to more points for the home team. That is what home court advantage is all about.
