Visions of a Rails for Trails through our community, surrounding areas and parts of Appalachia seem as a splendid idea. However, thoughts of the hiccups and obstacles that have submerged for many years exhaust me.
Fortunately, the beauty of the Kentucky nature is here today! Cave Run Lake and its region is a gem with endless opportunities for all, no matter how old or what interest. There may not be paved roads or street signs, nor will there be exits for restrooms or sandwich shops along the trails. But the bike shop is already in place. The Mom & Pop places are ready to take your order. Kayak rental, hiking trails, fishing streams, sightseeing tours, picnic shelters, swimming holes, running trails, biking paths, horseback routs, boat ramps the list is endless for those willing to enjoy the outdoors!
Let's hope the planning for Rails for Trails will continue and let’s keep vision a safe & developed road free from motorized vehicles, stretching from one end of our state to the other. But in the meantime, the exceptional beauty of a “backyard” named Kentucky is here to enjoy today.
