Two men and one woman remain behind bars following an alleged robbery June 16 at a home along U.S. 60 east, where a woman slightly opened her front door to a knock but was then thrown onto the floor and beaten by one of the intruders.
Robert Earl Stanford Jr., 43, Bartley Taylor, 25, and 28-year-old Kimberly Dawn Howard, were arrested two days apart after the Rowan County Sheriff’s Department opened an investigation into an incident where the woman’s purse and a bottle of pills were stolen from the home following the alleged assault.
According to Deputy Joe Cline, the victim was allegedly attacked about 7:25 p.m., while trying to see who was on the other side of the door, “He (Stanford) then forced his way into the residence and threw her on the floor and beat her about her head and face,” Cline said. “Deputy Donnie Hall spoke with the victim, who had been assaulted. And after interviewing known acquaintances of the victim, Hall was able to identify Stanford and serve a warrant for his arrest.”
The victim was transported to the hospital following the attack, and as of Monday, was back home doing well, Cline said.
Stanford, of Flemingsburg, was charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree assault. He also faces charges of second-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense, and failure to notify an address change to the department of transportation, DUI, first offense and no insurance.
Howard and Taylor, of Morehead, each are charged with complicity to commit first-degree robbery.
Probable cause was discovered in all three cases and each was bound over to a July 17 grand jury.
Morehead Police Chief Mike Adams and Officer Steve Mirus took Stanford into custody on the arrest warrant June 19. He is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center on a $25,000 full-cash bond and a $2,500 bond.
Taylor was arrested by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Department June 22 and remains in jail on a $10,000 full-cash bond. Howard also was arrested by the sheriff’s department June 22 but was transported to the Carter County Detention Center and being held on a $12,500 full-cash bond.
The case remains under investigation by Hall.
