Elderly couple dies in crash

By Tonia Rose - Staff Writer

An 88-year-old man and his 83-year-old wife died Friday in a three-vehicle crash when the Chevy pickup he was driving traveled into the path of a tractor trailer, causing the pickup to overturn in its top.

Jack and Evelyn Mulliken of 11842 Salt Lick Road were pronounced dead about 4 p.m. at the junction of KY 9 and KY 57 in Lewis County.

According to Kentucky State Police in Morehead, Mr. Mulliken was traveling east on KY 57 when he hit the International semi truck operated by Barry Pennington, no address given.

The impact sent Mulliken’s pickup into the pathway of a Toyota Highlander driven by Gail Vice of Ewing. The pickup then came to a final rest on its top.

Pennington and Vice both escaped injuries. The crash remains under investigation by Trooper Chad Bowling.
