Aug. 21, 2012 —
After nearly eight years in the Morehead community, family-owned and operated The Front Porch Restaurant is closing its doors Saturday night.
Owners Joann and Larry Moore and son Scott Moore, who managed the restaurant, have decided to retire from the restaurant business but will continue vending at area events.
“We are going to continue to do some vending at events like the Poppy Mountain Bluegrass Festival,” said Joann Moore. “We’ll be serving our well known items such as catfish, soup beans and cornbread.”
The Moores will be leasing The Front Porch space to Guardian Community Living.
“Guardian is currently leasing our former daycare space in the building next door,” said Joann Moore. “Guardian wants to expand and stay in their current location. It made sense to let them lease this additional space next door. We had been discussing retiring and this opportunity assisted us in making that decision.”
Saturday, Aug. 25, will be the Moores' last day in the restaurant business and the end of 15 jobs in the community since 2004.
“The Friday and Saturday following our closing, we will be selling many of the items that Guardian will not be using in its expansion,” she said.
“We want to thank all our customers for their support and friendship and hope all of our regulars will come in to see us this week.”
Guardian Community Living is a community-based program that operates group homes that provide services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, case management and direct care as an alternative to institutionalization.
A Guardian spokesperson told The Morehead News Monday that the new space will allow an expansion of the Adult Day Training Program.
“With this expansion we can provide additional opportunities for skill development in multiple domains,” said Kim Henderson, executive director. “With this increased space we will have more flexibility in scheduling social and recreational learning activities such as hobbies, art and music, and we can expand our supported employment efforts.”
“We will hold an open house in September and the date will be announced,” she added. “I encourage everyone in the community to visit.”
