A Lewis County man was indicted by a Rowan County grand jury Friday on two counts of murder, accused of killing a Clearfield couple in a car accident.
Dallas Carpenter, 57, of Emerson is charged with two counts of murder and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol third-offense. Carpenter allegedly caused the deaths of Roy Boyd, 89, and Lena Boyd, 91, both of Clearfield when he drove drunk and hit the Boyds at the base of Clinic Drive on KY 32. The couple died from injuries sustained in the May 28 collision.
According to Morehead Police Patrolmen James Sergent, the investigation from the collision found that Carpenter’s blood alcohol level was .21 during the crash and a data recorder in his vehicle showed he was traveling 69 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone when he hit the Boyds. According to Sergent, the 2000 GMC truck’s data recorder registered the speed information five seconds before the airbags deployed during the wreck.
Carpenter will be arraigned Sept. 8 at 11 a.m. in Rowan Circuit Court. He is free on bond.
