Oct. 16, 2012 — Morehead City Council has authorized the police department to purchase three new cruisers.
MPD Chief Mike Adams asked Council to approve the bid for three Dodge Chargers.
He reported that the Ford Crown Victoria, the department’s vehicle of choice in the past, is no longer being manufactured.
Adams said he had driven the Chevrolet Caprice, Ford police interceptor, as well as the Dodge Charger.
The Chargers will be purchased from Freedom Dodge in Lexington, including an additional fee of $60 each for a spare tire mounting bracket, at a price of $22,489.20 each for a grand total of $67,467.60.
In a letter to Mayor David Perkins and members of Council, Adams noted that the Dodge bid was well below the budgeted amount of $24,200 each or $72,600 for all three.
Perkins said that sounded like the best deal for the city’s money.
The motion to buy the cruisers was approved by unanimous vote.
