Free summer movies in two locations

June 19, 2012 —        Are you trying to find an inexpensive way to keep your family entertained for an evening?

       If so, the Rowan County Arts Center (RCAC) and Morehead Cinemas 6 are offering the public the opportunity to catch a free movie on 11 occasions.

       The RCAC screened the first of its “LawnFlix” free movies on June 8 by featuring “Mary Poppins”. 

       The lineup for the remainder of the summer for “LawnFlix” includes:

       June 22- Back to the Future

       July 6- Lady and the Tramp

       July 20- Ghostbusters

       August- To be announced

       Music begins at 8 p.m. before each movie and all shows  start around 9:15 p .m.

       The RCAC invites all to bring a chair, food, drink, and friends to watch the movies on an inflatable screen on the lawn of the old county courthouse.

       Angela Traver, RCAC executive director, said the Arts Center was thrilled with the first week attendance at LawnFlix of about 60 persons.

       “We are really excited about ‘LawnFlix’,” Traver said, “We hope it grows with each showing.”

       Morehead Cinemas 6 describes its series as “free kid's shows” to be shown indoors on the following schedule:

       June 20- The Karate Kid (2010)

       June 27- Despicable Me

       July 4- The Smurfs

       July 11- How to Train a Dragon

       July 18- The Zookeeper

       July 25- Megamind

       Doors open at 9 a.m. and the movie starts at 10 a.m. Although billed as a “kid's show,” all ages are invited.
