A 50-year-old Clearfield man posted an $8,000 cash bond one day after being arrested on a list of drug charges including trafficking within 1,000 yards of a school.
A routine traffic stop put alleged drug dealer James Marty Horton behind bars Friday when Morehead Police officer Patrick Smith noticed an expired temporary tag on Horton’s vehicle.
Horton was then released from jail Saturday and faces additional charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, third-degree trafficking, two counts of prescription drugs not in the original containers, two counts of carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of drug paraphernalia and no registration plate.
Smith also discovered Horton faced an outstanding warrant out of Powell County on charges of no insurance and failure to notify an address change to the Kentucky Department of Transportation.
Horton was taken into custody Friday about 12:48 p.m., said Chief Mike Adams.
“He was traveling on KY 32 near the North Fork Mobile Home Park when he was stopped,” Adams commented. “Smith found out about the warrant, and after further investigation, Smith located evidence in the vehicle to charge him with the additional charges.”
Horton also posted a $600 cash bond on the Powell County charges.

Parking issues top Council agenda

Council discussed problems with persons being ticketed during downtown events such as Noon Tunes, and passed a motion directing Mayor David Perkins to identify means to encourage citizens to patronize Main Street businesses over the summer, which may include relaxing downtown parking rules.
