$3,000 grants given
Morehead Mayor David Perkins and Rowan County Judge-executive Jim Nickell presented each of the county’s fire departments, the city fire department and rescue squad with checks for $3,000 on March 30.
Representatives from the Haldeman-Hayes Crossing Fire Department, Farmers Volunteer Fire Department, Route 377 Fire Department, Elliottville Fire Department, the Morehead Fire Department and the Rowan County Rescue Squad met Perkins and Nickell at the Morehead-Rowan County Ambulance Service to accept their departments’ checks.
“This is to put in your general fund,” Nickell told the men. “We thank you for all your hard work and dedication.”
Nickell first announced the rewards Feb. 17 at the monthly fiscal court meeting. Perkins and Nickell agreed that the fire departments did an outstanding job with cleanup during the massive ice storm in January that left 2,000 Rowan residents without power.
