From staff reports
Six children and two adults were taken to the hospital Friday night following a three-vehicle accident on U.S. 60 east.
The accident occurred about 6:30 p.m. near L&D; mobile home park about five miles outside Morehead.
Morehead-Rowan County EMS director Danny Blevins said eight patients were transported to the hospital and one refused treatment.
No other official information was available because the Kentucky State police do not issue press releases when there is not a fatality and the trooper in charge of the investigation was not on duty before press time Monday.
Members of the Haldeman-Hayes Crossing Volunteer Fire Department were at the scene. Fire Chief Jerry Bowen could not be reached for comment.
Witnesses said a vehicle hit a van parked along the shoulder of the road with four children inside, while attempting to pass several cars.
The driver of the vehicle, who was heading eastbound, was later arrested for driving under the influence, according to witnesses. A passenger in the vehicle fled on foot but was later apprehended.
