The local cast of The Lexington Children’s Theatre’s local production of “Still Life with Iris” by Steven Dietz is well into their second week of rehearsal. The show will be performed June 27-29 at the Morehead Conference Center.
The show takes place on Great Island, where one can find the best of everything. When the island’s rulers search for the perfect little girl, they put into motion a series of events that force one little girl, Iris, to question everything in her life. Iris and the audience will learn the answer to all her questions, and see if she makes it back home.
The event is part of the Lexington Children’s Theatre Discovery Series Program. This program provides challenging performance opportunities for young people by presenting plays with central characters that are also young in age, encourages and mentors students in the many areas of technical theatre, and provides LCT’s professional staff as support to improve the quality of youth performances.
In May 2004, LCT was awarded a gift from the W. Paul & Lucille C. Little Foundation to develop a satellite theatre school in Rowan and Elliott counties. Through this grant, LTC began offering classes and performance workshops, summer performance opportunities, subsidized touring performances, regional performances in Button Auditorium and LCT bus-ins, in-school residencies, post performance workshops/educator guides, technical theatre training and a parent volunteer program.
The cast of “Sill Life with Iris” is composed of area children. Members include Emma Banks, Nicholas Thaxton, Katie Duvall, Abby Watts, Peyton Money, Jessie Koett, Abby Hammond, Alexandria Northcutt, Joseph Greenhill, Chelsea Pruett, Bethany Pace, Isabella Thaxton, Victoria Northcutt, Ryan Anderson, Arlo Barnette, Jade Turner, Summer Mabry, Ellen Barnette, Caitlin Crump, Sabrina Copley, Taylor Pignolet, Tess Caric, Elisabeth Riddle, Haley Banks, Cali Fannin, and Shelby Ward.
