A new, more visible location will be used for this year’s Fourth of July Fireworks Show, according to Terri Alderman, executive director of the Morehead Tourism Commission, lead sponsor of the annual celebration.
Starting at dusk on Friday, many of the aerial fireworks will originate at B&B; Equipment Rental on KY 32 on the hilltop overlooking the Dairy Queen, Huddle House and Zane Collins Community Park. The larger pyrotechnics will be fired from the nearby Abner Construction Co. property.
Spectators are welcome to park at Dairy Queen, Huddle House and the park, as well as the nearby Wal-Mart Super center and at Rowan County Senior High School, McBrayer Elementary School and the Rowan Campus of Maysville Community and Technical College.
“The school system and technical college have requested that no one park in lawn areas but all designated parking areas at those locations will be available,” Alderman said.
In addition to tourism, other sponsors include Morehead State University, City of Morehead, St. Claire Regional Medical Center, Wal-Mart, Morehead Optimist Club, Guardian Automotive, SealMaster, Viking Food Mart, Huddle House, Dairy Queen, Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals, B&B; Equipment Rental, Abner Construction Co. and US Bank.
“We are grateful to Steve Marcus, who will be in charge of the fireworks, and to Whitney Bradley and Tod Barhorst for use of their property, and to all of our sponsors for their support of this important event on behalf of our community and our country,” Alderman added.
Friday marks the 232nd anniversary of the signing of the American Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.
