Silent auction benefits Rowan County Christmas

By Vanessa Overholser - Staff Writer

Rowan County Christmas board members are working together to raise money during their Christmas in July Silent Auction event.

“The silent auction will be the week of July 28,” said Rowan County Christmas Treasurer Dana Vise. “The bidding will end at 3 p.m. on Friday and bids offered over the phone will be accepted until noon on Friday.”

The charitable organization has received $5,000 worth of items from local and area businesses. And they continue to receive donations every day. Products range from tickets to Bristol Motor Speedway to vehicle tires.

The organization will be hosting pictures of auction items on The Citizens Bank website: www.tcbanytime.com. People who would like to view the items ahead of time can log onto the site July 21.

“Hopefully there is something for everybody,” Vise said. “We have a good variety of items to choose from.”

Rowan County Christmas distributes food vouchers and gifts during the holidays to persons that qualify based on income guidelines. Last year, $21,000 in food vouchers was donated.

Vise’s hope is that donations for food vouchers and Christmas gifts will increase from last year. To accomplish this, board members will be participating in other forms of fundraising.

“We will be doing a Christmas in July mailing asking for donations,” she said.

This mailing is done every year. It will be going out within a couple weeks. Citizens are encouraged to help in any way they can.

Another fundraiser is a golf tournament in October. During that event board members will operate the concession stand.

“Donations can be given to local financial institutions,” Vise said. “They can mail donations to Rowan County Christmas at PO Box 1323, Morehead, KY 40351.”

Anyone wanting to contribute to this cause can contact Vise at 780-2340 or Marium Glover at 784-6973, ext. 2303.
