A public hearing was held Sept. 3 at Morehead State after several local residents requested a hearing concerning an air quality permit for Guardian Automotive to continue to operate its auto trim manufacturing facility on KY 32 in Morehead. Only five of the approximately 45 people in attendance made verbal comments including Doug Doerrfeld and magistrate Ray White, who were on opposite sides of the issue. Guardian officials made statements about the company’s safety procedures since it opened in 1997, and its financial contributions to the community. Doerrfeld talked about the “cancer causing carcinogens” released by Guardian. White said as a county official, first responder, neighbor and business owner he felt safe having the company in Rowan County. An electronic copy of the draft permit is available at www.air.ky.gov/permitting/.
