A Rowan County grand jury indicted 12 individuals in 13 indictments Dec. 19, on charges including evading police, promoting contraband at the jail, and trafficking in a controlled substance.

Rebecca M. Hutson, 26, faces two indictments on charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance Sept. 16 when she allegedly was found with Methadone. Hutson also is charged with third-degree possession of a controlled substance when she was allegedly caught with the non-narcotic drug Alparazolam. Count four on the indictment states she further faces one charge of second-degree possession of drug paraphernalia. Count five charges her with controlled substance prescription not in the original container.

Hutson also faces a public intoxication charge when she was allegedly found to be under the influence of a controlled substance, excluding alcohol, while in the Morehead Wal-Mart.

The second indictment against Huston charges her with one count of first-degree trafficking in the controlled substance Oxycodone when she was allegedly in possession of the schedule II narcotic. She could face up to 10 years in prison.

Also facing a grand jury indictment is 34-year old Mitchell Ivan Trent, who was arrested Nov. 23 after allegedly leading Morehead Police on a speedy car chase through a trailer park and across the Kroger Center toward Bluestone Road.

Trent was taken into custody about 12:12 a.m., after MPD Sgt. Erik Caudill allegedly observed Trent traveling at a high rate of speed on KY 32 near the Huddle House, said Chief Mike Adams.

“He was heading toward Morehead when Sgt. Caudill attempted to stop him by activating his emergency equipment,” Adams said following the arrest. “The driver of the vehicle would not stop and proceeded to attempt to flee by entering the North Fork Trailer Park.”

Trent allegedly drove through a yard to avoid Patrolman Steve Mirus, who had blocked the entrance/exit of the trailer park. After making an exit, Trent crossed KY 32 and headed into the Kroger Center and then toward Bluestone Road. “He finally came to a stop near the 3000 block of Bluestone and was taken into custody,” Adams said. “Luckily no one was injured in the incident.”

Trent is charged with first-degree fleeing and evading police, operating a motor vehicle under the influence, operating a motor vehicle one a revoked or suspended license, speeding, reckless driving, first-degree wanton endangerment, resisting arrest, possession of an open alcohol beverage in a motor vehicle, improper registration plate, expired registration plates, failure to maintain insurance on the vehicle and first-degree persistent felony offender. Trent remains in the Rowan County Detention Center on a $10,000 full-cash bond. If found guilty, he could face up to five years in prison.

A grand jury indictment is a formal accusation of a crime and does not establish guilt.

Other indictments include:

• Robert A. Everman, 47, one charge of first-degree promoting contraband at the Rowan County Detention Center Nov. 19 when he allegedly introduced Oxycodone to the jail.

• Anthony Taylor Johnson, 27, one charge of theft by unlawful taking under $300 when he allegedly Nov. 10 took a computer belonging to the East Kentucky Tobacco Warehouse.

• Archie Gilvin, 49, one charge of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument when he allegedly March 27 aided Matthew Ray in possession and passing a forged check drawn on the account of Teresa Castle.

• Matthew R. Lewis, 25, one charge of theft by unlawful taking under $300 when he allegedly Sept. 9 shoplifted at the Morehead Wal-Mart; one count of public intoxication by a controlled substance, excluding alcohol, when he allegedly put himself and others in danger and unreasonably annoyed persons in the vicinity of Morehead; one count of third-degree possession of a controlled substance Alprazolam; one charge of first-degree possession of a controlled substance Oxycodone; one charge of possession of a controlled substance not in the original container and one charge of tampering with physical evidence when he allegedly attempted to get rid of pills the officer had caught him with by swallowing them.

• James C. Cochran, 24, one charge of second-degree possession of a forged instrument when he allegedly April 15 through May 1 possessed 20 forged checks in the amounts of $50, $60, $30 $40, $33.47, $35, $49.23, $30.14, $45 and $40.90 (some checks of the same amount), drawn on the account of Beatrice Easton at the Salt Lick Deposit Bank and passed the checks at Caudill’s Grocery, Texaco, Kroger, and 377 County Market from April to May.

• Abdullah Abdussalaam, 36, one charge of first-degree possession of a controlled substance Aug. 15, cocaine; one charge of possession of drug paraphernalia; one charge of first-degree possession of marijuana and one charge of first-degree persistent felony offender.

• Richard D. Johnson, 27, one charge of first-degree possession of a controlled substance Oxycodone, Oct. 18, second offense; one charge of theft by unlawful taking under $300 when he allegedly took a grinder from the Morehead Wal-Mart valued at $31.77; one charge of public intoxication by controlled substance, excluding alcohol; one charge of second-degree persistent felony offender.

• Nathan C. Crum, 27, one charge of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon Nov. 14, when he allegedly was found to be in the possession of a 22-caliber handgun; one charge of first-degree wanton endangerment when he allegedly fired the handgun into a room which other people were present; one charge of falsely reporting an incident when he allegedly gave false information to a law enforcement officer by reporting that someone had shot him in the foot and gave the officer the wrong information about where the incident occurred and one count of second-degree persistent felony offender.

• Brian A. Crum, 24, one charge of fraudulent use of a credit card belonging to Vanessa Crum Aug. 30 when he allegedly obtained merchandise valued in excess of $100 in any six month period and said the credit card had been used without the cardholder’s consent. Crum allegedly used the card at Wal-Mart in Morehead to purchase items totaling $66.92; at a Texaco Foodmart in Morehead on merchandise totaling $29.67 and at the BP Station in Morehead on items totaling $101.10 and one charge of first-degree being a persistent felony offender.

• Stacy R. Stevens, 21, (co-defendant Brian Crum) one charge of fraudulent use of a credit card belonging to Vanessa Crum Aug. 30 when she allegedly obtained merchandise valued in excess of $100 in any six month period and said the credit card had been used without the cardholder’s consent. Stevens allegedly used the card at Wal-Mart in Morehead to purchase items totaling $66.92; at a Texaco Foodmart in Morehead on merchandise totaling $29.67 and at the BP Station in Morehead on items totaling $101.10.
