Pop’s Cruise-In promises classic cars and family fun

May 29, 2012 — Sponsors of the first annual Pop’s Cruise-In are looking forward to offering the community an evening of family fun and classic cars on Saturday, June 23.

The event will be held at Pop’s BBQ at the intersection of KY 801 and US 60 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

All car, truck and motorcycle owners and enthusiasts are invited to attend and register to receive one of the five trophies presented to the winners of the Pop’s Choice, O’Reilly’s Choice, Shriners Choice, Participant Choice and Longest Distance Traveled categories.

“Lots of great door prizes have been donated for the event,” said sponsor Aaron Roberts of Aaron’s Best One Tire in Morehead. “Included in the prizes are a $100 gift card from sponsor O’Reilly Auto Parts and 10 tickets to a suite at the Cincinnati Reds with a VIP parking pass for the Aug. 28 game against the Cardinals.”

All registered participants will receive 10 percent off Pop’s menu items. Kids’ games and face painting will be offered throughout the cruise-in with music provided by DJ Greg Binion with the High Rollers Sound Machine.

Dash plaques and goodie bags will be given away to those attending.

A 50/50 drawing will be held with all proceeds going to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

“We have traveled miles to see these kinds of car shows,” said Roberts. “We thought it would be a great way to give back to the community as well as offering something to local car enthusiasts,” he added.

“We hope to have a cruise-in every year where families can enjoy an evening together and a children’s charity will benefit,” said Danny Boyd, a cruise-in organizer and car enthusiast.

Sponsors for the event include Tony’s Classic Cars, Glover’s Glass and Lock, Grumpy’s Body Shop, Rt. 60 Exhaust and Welding, Mike’s Used Cars, Aarons Best One, O’Reilly’s Auto Parts, Gordon Food Services and US Food Services.

“The sponsor list has continued to grow as the word gets out about this great event,” said Roberts. “The community is really coming together.”

Registration for the car show will begin at 5 p.m. the day of the event. “Farmers Christian Church is allowing us to use their parking lot for the cars participating in the show,” Roberts said.
