MSU extends Andrews’ contract; Governor’s Scholars to return in 2013

June 8, 2012 — Morehead State University’s Board of Regents rewarded President Wayne D. Andrews with a one-year contract extension Thursday and again commended him for his “exceptional leadership.”

“I am deeply gratified by the board’s action. I am very proud to lead this institution,” Dr. Andrews said.

The contract extension carries his current appointment through June 30, 2016. Andrews became MSU’s 13th president on Jan. 1, 2005.

Andrews announced at the meeting that MSU has been awarded a three-year contract to host the Kentucky Governor's Scholars Program (GSP), starting in June 2013.

MSU hosted GSP from 2006-09 with more than 1,200 students attending the program.

In other action, the Regents approved a $135.7 million operating budget – an increase of $200,000 - for the 2012-13 academic year and ratified awarding degrees to the 2012 spring graduates.

The budget also includes a five percent tuition increase for undergraduates and graduate students along with a four percent increase in student housing rates.

The Regents recognized outgoing board members Glenn Means of Mt. Sterling and Terry White of Morehead for their service as regents.

House Majority Floor Leader Rocky Adkins, D-Sandy Hook, will be honored as this year’s recipient of the Founders Award for University Service.

A two-time MSU graduate, the former Eagle basketball captain has served as a representative since 1986 and floor leader since November 2003. He was inducted into the MSU Alumni Hall of Fame in 2004.
