MPD makes drug arrests

The Morehead Police Department has been busy with drug related investigations and arrests the last week and a half.

Two people were taken to the Rowan County Detention Center Jan. 29 after they allegedly had drugs in their possession and one was allegedly driving intoxicated.

Andrea Wallace, 19, of Clearfield is charged with driving under the influence first-degree and possession of a controlled substance.

Wallace and her passenger, Jeffrey Goodan, 25, of Olive Hill, was traveling on U.S. 60 West at 12:35 a.m. toward KY 519 when police noticed their vehicle making a sharp left turn onto 519 swerving into the oncoming lane. The vehicle then corrected to it southbound lane crossing the center lane twice more before turning onto McBrayer Road. The vehicle was pulled over by police near Roxanne Lane in Clearfield.

When MPD officer Derek Howard walked up to the vehicle he noticed signs of drug abuse and intoxication. A field sobriety test was given to Wallace in which she failed, police said. A search of her possessions revealed a lighter and lighter leash and half of a Percocet 10 mg. A bag of marijuana and a marijuana pipe was discovered under the seat of the vehicle during the search, which Goodan claimed as his own, police said.

Goodan is charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

In a non-related incident, a Feb. 1 traffic stop yielded a 19-year-old Morehead woman with a laundry list of drug charges.

Regina Lewis, of Morehead is charged with driving under the influence first-degree, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance first-degree, possession of a controlled substance third-degree, promoting contraband first-degree and driving with one headlight.

Police noticed the vehicle Lewis was driving leaving Downtown BP at 12:54 a.m. with one headlight traveling at a low rate of speed. According to police, the vehicle began to weave and then was pulled over. According to MPD officer Derek Howard, when he approached the vehicle the driver exhibited signed of intoxication and did not put the vehicle in park as it started to roll as she looked for her purse. Police said Lewis had to be prompted multiple times to stop the vehicle.

According to police, Lewis failed a field sobriety test that they administered and had pill dust on her nostrils and had admitted that she had been snorting pills. In the vehicle police found oxycodone, and xanax pills in her possession.

A search of Lewis at the jail revealed the marijuana and marijuana pipe.

The investigation is ongoing by Howard.

In another non-related incident, a husband and wife were lodged in the Rowan County Detention Center on drug charges after police responded to a complaint at the Holiday Inn Express on Toms Drive Feb 6.

According to police, they responded to the hotel because two subjects had let their bathtub in one of the hotel rooms overflow and then became irate when they were asked to leave.

Officers Chris Waltz and Steve Mirus responded.

Roy D. Walker, 37, of Clearfield was charged with public intoxication, possession of a controlled substance, first-degree and possession of a controlled substance third-degree. In his possession police said they found oxycodone, methadone and alprozolam in an unlabeled pill bottle.

His wife Heather J. Walker, 26, of Salt Lick is charged with public intoxication, possession of a controlled substance first-degree, possession of a controlled substance third-degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia. A search by police in Walker’s purse allegedly revealed two different types of pills, eight syringes with needles, two burnt spoons with blue residue on them and a dollar bill rolled up with white residue on it.

In still another non-related incident, a Morehead man is in jail after being intoxicated and trying to fool police of his identity.

Anthony D. Pennington, 31, was located by police at the Roadrunner 2 bar with two outstanding warrants. A search of his possessions by police turned up a pill carrier on his keychain with two and half oxycodones in it. Pennington told police that his name was ‘Dougy.’ Officer Mirus warned him that it was against the law to give a false name to police. According to police, after being warned Pennington then lied again about his identity. Pennington then offered up a Kentucky License to police to confirm his true identity.

Pennington is charged with possession of a controlled substance first-degree, giving an officer a false name or address. Pennington had outstanding warrants for operating on a suspended license and not having vehicle registration.

The investigation is ongoing by Mirus.
