RCSHS counselor receives state award


MOREHEAD

MARCH 5 —     Denine Sergent, counselor at Rowan County Senior High School, was recently named Outstanding High School Counselor by the Kentucky School Counselor Association (KSCA).

     Sergent was presented with the award on March 4 at the awards luncheon during the annual KSCA conference, which was held in Lexington.

    In the nomination for Outstanding High School Counselor, Sergent was noted for “her gentle yet firm nature with students, which has eased fears and her praise of student accomplishments that has sparked both enthusiasm and pride.” She was also noted for being a ‘port in the storm,’ for both students and staff at Rowan County Senior High School.

    Sergent has been a school counselor at Rowan County Senior High School for the past five and 1/2 years. Upon hearing of the news of the award, she said, “I am very humbled by the nomination. The recognition for the work I do is much appreciated.”

    She then added, “I have the privilege of working in the best Kentucky school system as well as working with a remarkable administration, staff, teachers and students. I truly love my job and all of those I work with on a daily basis. It is an honor to represent the Rowan County School System in this way.”
