MOREHEAD
MARCH 5 — A Morehead man is in jail after allegedly cashing checks stolen in a burglary.
Danny E. Bowen, 22, is charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree.
According to police, checks and a jar of cash were stolen from a residence on Litton Road last Monday and Bowen cashed one of the checks three hours after the burglary occurred. Bowen cashed the checks at a bank and a watch was put on the checks. He also cashed the checks at Wal-Mart, Certified and one other gas station, police said.
After attempting to cash a check the second time, Bowen was arrested by MPD Detective Sgt. Matt Salley at the Citizens Bank Wednesday with assistance from Capt. David Sexton.
According to police, Bowen cashed five of the stolen checks, which leaves 33 still floating in circulation.
The investigation is ongoing by Salley. The burglary is under investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
