March 11, 2010 — According to Morehead city officials, 2010 Census forms should be in the mail by next week and everyone needs to participate.
“Developers that are thinking about putting restaurants look at the numbers,” Mayor David Perkins said. “We need accurate information at all levels to have the true picture of our county in the state.
“There are 10 primary questions depending on the number of people in the household, they’re saying 10 question in 10 minutes,” Perkins said. “If you do it the right way, it saves in tax money. If they don’t have to spend time looking at people who didn’t take the time to send their forms in, they can concentrate on those who didn’t get the forms for whatever reason.
“I believe that identifiable information is not shared with other government organizations,” Perkins said. “It’s not a tracking service of any kind.
“Making sure the census forms get filled out is extremely important,” Perkins said.
Perkins said not everyone participated in the last census.
“I think it was probably a couple thousand off,” he said.
“It determines funding for roads, schools and healthcare funding. It just really has an affect on peoples lives that they don’t realize.”
