Landfill fire

Morehead’s five fire departments were dispatched to a fire at the Veolia landfill at 4:49 p.m. Wednesday night. Crews from Farmers, Morehead, Haldeman-Hays Crossing, Elliottville and KY 377 used approximately 50,000 gallon of water to put out the fire, said Farmers Fire Chief Darrell Glover. An advisory warned residents who lived south of the landfill to U.S. 60 west to stay indoors while the fire was being contained. The area burned was about 100 by 150 feet. Crews were on the scene two hours and 45 minutes. Glover praised landfill workers for their help in containing the fire and digging out garbage.
