The Rowan County Champions for a Drug Free Kentucky has received a grant to help prevent substance abuse in the Rowan County area.
The Alert Regional Prevention Center in Ashland has donated the $3,000 to raise the awareness of substance abuse in the Clearfield area. President of Rowan County Champions Cindy Kerns said they are asking for ideas from the community to solve the problem.
“We are going to try to get together with the local pastors and the schools in that area to brainstorm and see the best way to spend that money and raise awareness.” Kerns said. “Whether that is partnering with UNITE and starting a neighborhood watch, we want people in the Clearfield area to voice their ideas and help make a plan on how we can best suit the needs of the community.”
“We need awareness of the problem and the things to look out for not only in Clearfield but countywide,” said Morehead Police Department Captain and Champions member David Sexton. “I feel that we need people to step up to the plate and take an active responsibility for the community that they live in.”
According to Kerns, those that want to voice concerns can come to the next Rowan County Champions meeting held at the Rowan County Health Department Feb. 17 at 11:30 a.m.
