The Morehead One Stop Career Center building was severely damaged by the May 5 flood. After several weeks of renovation, staff members moved back into the 126 Bradley Avenue location Wednesday. Regional Manager for the Office of Employment Training Jason Slone said he was very happy to be back in the center’s original location.
“It’s nice,” Slone said. “It’s good to be back to where staff members and customers know where to go. It’s nice to be back especially since the building has been renovated so we can give our customers even better service.”
Slone said the employment agency added some amenities to the building to make its services more accessible to the public.
“We installed all of our computers closer to the staff in order to better assist job seekers,” Slone said. “Our phone system is on a Voice Over IP which allows us to manage a higher volume of calls. We also added more computers.”
The employment agency had to vacate the building in May due to severe flooding.
“All of the interior, furniture and electronics were destroyed by the flood,” Slone said. “We had to move into the Vocational Rehab office area in the Carpetland building on Christy Creek. We were there from the Monday following the flood until Tuesday.”
Slone said Vocational Rehab staff was very supportive of the career center in the past few weeks during the agency’s renovation. Now the agency and staff is working to decorate the offices and get settled in at the Bradley Avenue office.
Everyone is welcome to come to the office, he said.
“I would encourage people who are job seeking to come and see what services we have to offer and for those who have utilized our services to see the changes we have made to our office and our services.”
