Election filing deadline is next week

Aug. 7, 2012 —        With exactly one week left to file for the Nov. 6 general election, no candidates have emerged for the Lakeview Heights City Commission.

Four seats are to be filled for two-year terms.

Three candidates have filed for four-year terms on the Rowan County Board of Education. Richard (Rick) Whelan is running in District 2, Jennifer Blair Anderson in District 3 and incumbent Brian Wallace in District 4.

Gary Ferguson and Dennis Perry have filed for reelection as Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisors.

Morehead City Council’s filing deadline was before the May primary. That race is down to six candidates with the withdrawal Monday of incumbent Bill Patrick.

Appearing on the ballot for the six, two-year terms this fall will be incumbents Jan Bishop, Tom Carew, Beth Ousley, Glen Teager and Bruce Adkins. The sixth candidate is newcomer Carolyn Franzini.

Withdrawing earlier from the Morehead Council ballot were Regina Thompson and Steve Goldberg.

The filing deadline for the school board, soil conservation and Lakeview Heights races is Tuesday, Aug. 14, at 4 p.m.
