An Elliott County man is in jail after driving his vehicle into a singlewide trailer on U.S. 60 East Wednesday night.
Robert C. Carter, 29, of Sandy Hook, is charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol first-offence and criminal littering.
“Once he got out of the vehicle he threw the liquor bottles that he’d been drinking from over top the trailer he ran into, into the property owner’s yard,” Kentucky State Police Trooper Keith Howard said. “It’s a trailer being remodeled so no one was living in it at the time,” Howard said. The trailer is located at 5550 U.S. 60 East and belongs to Michael Chadwell.
According to police reports, Carter, who was pulling a trailer behind his vehicle, lost control when the trailer started to fishtail. He over corrected, swerving his vehicle into the mobile home, police said.
Carter received minor scratches in the wreck but refused medical treatment. Carter claims seatbelts were in use during the wreck. Police reports confirm that the airbag of his Chevy Blazer did deploy. Carter is lodged in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $10,000 cash bond.
The investigation is ongoing by the KSP and Trooper Howard.
