House dedicated to Carew

Many community members, local and state officials and Frontier housing committee members gathered at the new Green Build Kentucky home on Rubio Place in Edgewood Friday to name the home after Tom Carew, founder of Frontier housing.

Stacey Epperson, president and CEO of Frontier Housing, said it took 65 days to build this home verses six months for all other homes Frontier has built.

The green home is not just symbolic for being environment-friendly.

“This ‘green’ home is a bold statement,” Epperson said. “It is the beginning of the end. We are moving from the old way of living to a new way of living. In this ‘green’ home we can expect to have homeowners pay less than a $1 a day without having to spend too much money on utilities.

“This home is being dedicated in honor of Tom Carew for his many years of service not only to Frontier, but to affordable housing solutions in eastern Kentucky,” Epperson said. “Without his leadership and dedication, many families in our area would never have experienced the joy of owning their own home.”

Frontier Housing Communities and Design Manager Josh Trent designed and oversaw the building of the home.

“You have quality, affordable housing to be proud of,” Epperson said. “You have a great team here with the Frontier staff and elected officials and the community.”

State Rep. John Will Stacy and Senators Robin Webb and Walter Blevins made speeches that told how they all know Carew and their appreciation of his effort to make Morehead and Eastern Kentucky a more affordable, safe, clean environment for homeowners.

“It means a lot for me to see this happen,” Webb said. “People need assistance in getting affordable housing.”

“This is our future here,” Blevins said. “It’s a way to heat and cool homes without having to spend so much money.”

Blevins presented a proclamation to Carew and his wife Molly after his speech.

Epperson followed with closing remarks and invited everyone to tour the home and enjoy refreshments.

The Green Build home was built on the following principles:
