An Owingsville woman’s sport utility vehicle caught fire Wednesday morning after she stopped at a rest area on the westbound side of I-64.
Susan Little, an animal rescuer for the Eastern Kentucky Animal Rescue, just finished dropping off dogs to another transporter from Grayson when she noticed problems with her 2003 Chevy Trail Blazer.
“It started to chug,” Little said. “Then I saw smoke. I prayed that the angels would let me get to the rest area so I could call for help.”
The vehicle burst into flames after Little stopped. Then she called the fire department.
“I have been religious about getting it serviced and taking care of it,” Little said. “I had no problems with it before.”
Two Morehead Fire Rescue tankers and one engine responded to the fire. The fire was extinguished within two minutes.
Little said she was grateful she had already dropped off the dogs. She said she hated that the vehicle was a total loss but was grateful it happened when it did.
“I guess the angels heard me after all,” she said.
The fire remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Trooper Chris Jones.
