KSP goes on two-county car chase

By Rob Ginter - Staff Writer

An Olive Hill woman is in jail after she allegedly led Kentucky State Police on a chase from Rowan County to Bath County. Sharon Suttles, 34, was clocked speeding on U.S. 60 East in Morehead, according to police.

“(Trooper David) Zimmerman clocked her running 70 in a 55 coming westbound on U.S. 60,” Trooper Joe Veeneman said. “She has a suspended operators license but wasn’t intoxicated.”

According to police, Zimmerman activated his lights in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop but Suttles increased her speed, refusing to stop. KSP Troopers Chris Jones and Veeneman joined the pursuit and followed Suttles onto I-64 westbound at the exit 137 entrance ramp. Suttles then exited the interstate via exit 133 and traveled on KY 801 South turning onto U.S. 60 west into Bath County. Suttles then turned onto Helton Road off U.S. 60.

Suttles struck two other vehicles with her car during the pursuit but no one was injured in any of the vehicles, according to police.

“We chased her onto a dead end road and she just ran out of room and took off on foot,” Veeneman said. “She was apprehended shortly after a foot pursuit.”

Suttles is charged with three counts of wanton endangerment first-degree, fleeing or evading police first-degree in a motor vehicle, two counts of leaving the scene of accident-failure to render aid or assistance, fleeing or evading police first degree on foot, third-degree criminal mischief, speeding, operating on a suspended operators license, and disregarding a stop sign.

Additional warrants were issued for Suttles at the time of her arrest. She was taken into custody and lodged in the Rowan County Detention Center. The incident is still under investigation by Trooper Zimmerman.
