An Olive Hill man is in jail without bond after he allegedly sexually assaulted a three-year-old child in the St. Claire Regional Medical Center parking lot in Morehead.
Brandon J. Trent, 23, is charged with first-degree sodomy. His wife, who was providing temporary care for the child, left the child alone in a car with Trent while she visited her mother at SCR. Trent allegedly committed the act between 1:30 and 2 p.m. Tuesday during the hospital visit.
“The child’s mother picked her up from the caregiver when she got off work,” Morehead Police Det. Sgt. Matt Salley said. “The child told her mother troubling statements that bothered her and led her to believe that her daughter had been sexually assaulted.”
Police say the mother then took the child to the emergency room where she was examined. The child and mother both spoke to socials services officials and police.
“After speaking with the little girl we were led to believe that something occurred,” Salley said. “The suspect was then brought in by Sgt. Erik Caudill to be interviewed. Through our investigation and the interview probable cause was developed and Trent was arrested and lodged in the Rowan County Detention Center.”
Trent was arrested at 2 a.m. Wednesday morning and charged with sodomy in the first-degree, which is a Class A felony. If convicted he could serve 20 years to life in prison.
The investigation is ongoing by Salley.
