‘Rock Solid’ youth center ready to roll

By Rob Ginter - Staff Writer

The Rock Solid Youth Center has firmed a location and seems to be a stone’s throw away from rolling out the red carpet to welcome in the youth of Rowan County.

The advisory board, led by Pastor David Keeton, has left no stone unturned in their search for a location and now settled on 146 E. Main Street.

Prior to the Rowan County football game verses Rockcastle County today youth center representatives are giving away 200 green and gold spirit towels and Rock Solid T-shirts. “At the football game we’ll be giving out the spirit towels through the cheerleaders. Every student that fills out an information card they get at the Rock Solid table will get either a T-shirt or spirit towel,” Keeton said.

“We won’t be fully operational but we would like to have it to where people can come in to view and get a feel for what we’re going to be doing and how it’s set up during the Hometown Holidays period,” Keeton said. “But the grand opening will be sometime shortly after the first of the year.”

“We’ve also been working with county officials in coordination with the Dec. 3 Community Christmas dinner,” Keeton said. “We’ll have volunteers helping with that. We’ll also be sponsoring an area wide youth event called shake this city sometime January.

“We just want to thank everybody that has expressed interest in and in supporting anyway they can,” Keeton said. “We’re all about partnering with the community and our events and scheduling will reflect that in a wide variety of ways.”
