A national Christian Motorcycle Ministry has opened a new chapter in Kentucky headed up by a Morehead man. The Iron Knights of Christ is a new branch of Calvary Riders Motorcycle Ministry started in October 2009 by Gray Eagle (also known as the Rev. Vaughn Hanshaw).
“I’ve been in Strike Force prison ministries for 11 years,” Gray Eagle said. “I have eight uncles in and out of prison throughout my life and that was what started it. Through that I’ve met a lot of bikers that have done fundraisers and helped with our prison ministries.”
Hanshaw said it is common for bikers to call themselves and refer to one another as their biker name and not their given name.
“We’re having a membership drive here in Kentucky,” Gray Eagle said. “You don’t have to ride a bike and you don’t have to own a bike to join. You just have to be a born again Christian and a member of a church.”
“You should join if you like motorcycles and like being around motorcycle people and motorcycle clubs,” Gray Eagle said. “Even if you don’t have a motorcycle, if you like to be around this culture we’re a perfect Christian organization to join. There are no fees and no dues with us, there is no prospecting period, and if you’re a member of a church you can join. Every other club and ministry has fees and dues and a prospecting period, but we don’t.”
“We go to bike rallies and whenever we’re invited to things we go just to be a witness for Christ,” Gray Eagle said.
The Iron Knights of Christ are headed to the Regional Confederation of Clubs meeting in Columbus, Ohio the third week of November. The IKC is headed north along with 150 motorcycle clubs, where Gray Eagle will be the keynote speaker at the event.
