The Morehead Police Department recently donated forfeited items from a criminal case to the Rowan County school system. Among this property were items that had been part of a Nigerian scam and were unable to be returned to its proper owner due to the complexities of the case, police said.
“Two Playstation Portables, games for the PSPs and an iPod speaker were given to the school system to be used as they saw fit,” Rowan County Senior High School Youth Services Director Carol Turner said.
“It felt good to be able to make some good use out of something that was involved in crime,” MPD Captain David Sexton said.
It was the gift that kept on giving as Turner gave the items to Rowan County Christmas.
“It is such a wonderful program and we’ll let them use it for raffles or prizes or whatever they see fit,” Turner said. “We wanted them to have it because it’s such a great project for all of Rowan County. I thought it was wonderful of the police department. It was a great thing to do with the confiscated items.”
