Hometown Holiday is Dec. 5

By Vanessa Overholser - Staff Writer

The folks at the Morehead Tourism and Morehead Tomorrow want citizens to deck the halls on Main Street during the Seventh Annual Hometown Holiday event Dec. 5.

“Hometown Holiday is a time for people to stroll up and down Main Street and enjoy music and the shops,” said Terri Alderman, executive director of Morehead Tourism and Morehead Tomorrow. “We will have extended business hours, country, blue grass, gospel music, carolers, a magician, kids games, cloggers and Santa Claus.”

Alderman said she hopes that people would attend the event.

“It is free and open to the public,” she said. “Hometown Holiday is a great way to see what our community has to offer as far as local talent is concerned.”

Hometown Holiday was started in lieu of the holiday parade in December 2002 and was sponsored by Morehead Tomorrow. The purpose for the holiday event is to kick off the season and to the public’s attention to the downtown businesses.

“We thought it would be a nice change,” Alderman said. “It has been growing and we try to add new talent to our entertainment line each year. We had a good response from the community about the event.”

Hometown Holiday will be from 5-8 p.m. A full schedule of events will be featured in a later edition of The Morehead News.
