Zumba for RCC

By Rob Ginter - Staff Writer

Zumba instructors from across Rowan County are getting together to benefit Rowan County Christmas.

Seven certified Zumba instructors will gather Sunday night at the Crager Room in the Adron Doran University Center. The dance/aerobic event is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. and open to the public with the only entry fee being that of a toy donated to Rowan County Christmas.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s for a boy or girl, just as long they bring one with them,” said Zumba instructor Crystal Black.

Sarrah Baldwin, Crystal Black, Stephanie Evans, Kristin Kappes, Heather Gibson, Caryn Grim and Melissa Jenkins are all certified instructors and meet every week with their classes but this Sunday they will be having what’s called a “master” class where they all get together and do their own routines for those in attendance.

“I think it’s great to be able to raise toys for kids,” said Black. “I think it’s great that all the instructors are coming together to do this. It’s going to be fun. It’s going to be awesome.”

“I’ve been helping out from time to time with Rowan County Christmas for a while now and I love it,” said Kappes. “It’s an awesome cause, buying gifts for the kids that can’t share the experience with others because they can’t afford it. It puts a smile on my face to know that I can help. I’m always willing to help in any way I can. This is giving me the opportunity to do just that.”

All instructors involved will be bringing their class schedules so those attending the event can join them at one of their separate locations if they don’t have a Zumba instructor already.
