Three people are dead and one man is in jail on receiving stolen property charges, as Kentucky State Police investigate a double-homicide Monday on Macabee Creek near Soldier and a third death in the Anglin area of Carter County.
Virginia Massard, 49, and 27-year-old Joseph Cox were discovered inside the Massard residence about 11 a.m.
Carter County Deputy Coroner Ronnie Wallace pronounced the two dead just before noon. On Tuesday, KSP had not released the cause of death or named any suspects.
Rumors began to spread early Tuesday concerning two men who were arrested in connection to the investigation. But, according to a spokesperson in the booking department at the Carter County Detention Center, no one had been charged in the deaths.
However, David L. Caudill, 33, was arrested late Tuesday evening when police discovered him in possession of Massard’s vehicle. According to the report, KSP was unable to locate the car following her death. During the investigation by KSP and the Olive Hill Police Department, Caudill was discovered in Olive Hill while driving the car. He is charged with receiving stolen property over $300, second-degree operating a motor vehicle under the influence, operating a vehicle on a suspended license and on a warrant for flagrant non-support.
The investigation is being conducted by Detective Erik Kouns, who could not be reached for comment.
The bodies were sent to Frankfort for an autopsy.
A third Carter County death occurred Monday evening when KSP went to a residence on Anglin Branch to conduct a welfare check. When police arrived, Calvin Doug Fannin, 51, was discovered shot to death in the yard.
Police have not released the cause of death, but neighbors said he could have been deceased for a couple of days.
The body was sent to Frankfort for an autopsy.
