Members of the community, young and old, are gearing up for the annual City-County Dinner. The feast will be held Dec. 3 at the Carl Perkins Center from 4 to 8 p.m. Turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls, dressing and cranberry sauce are all on the menu for those that attend. According to organizers, Santa will be there for pictures.
“Everyone is invited in Morehead and Rowan County. We want to make sure they know it’s for everyone in the county,” said Rowan County Treasurer Michele Jessee.
“I always tell everybody the best part of the whole thing is you get to come out and enjoy yourself,” Jessee said. “There is Christmas music, it’s a nice social event with no agenda. My favorite part is the children and the senior citizens.”
According to organizers, many parts are coming together to put on the feast.
“Chi Omega will be putting out candy bags for Santa to give out and helping with clean up,” Jessee said. “The elected officials will be serving the food. We also give an award for an outstanding citizen in the community and the judge and mayor will give that out. Mary Ann Stevens is in charge of the kitchen. Chamber of commerce members are donating liters of pop and churches have been asked to donate desserts.”
“Life Care will be supplying the rolls,” Jessee said. “They bring out some of their people early and that way they can get served and it’s not so crowded with some that may have wheel chairs. They like to have their picture with Santa as well as anybody else.
“I’d like to thank to thank Ivory Waddell from the Rowan County Detention Center who cooks the meat,” Jessee said.
“When you go out there everybody is always laughing and it’s a good social event for everyone to come to,” Jessee said. “The city and county does it to give something back to the public.”
