Two arrested for Morgan County burglary

By Rob Ginter - Staff Writer

A Morgan County man is in the Rowan County Detention Center charged with burglary. A second suspect also was arrested.

According to police, Brandon R. Perry, 26, and Sean McCarty, both of West Liberty, broke into a residence on Virginia Lane in Morgan County.

“I was contacted by the victim’s father and upon investigation, leads were developed that implicated Sean McCarty and Brandon Perry,” said KSP Trooper Jeff Crase. “Brandon had allegedly went into the residence in West liberty, and while inside removed items like firearms as well as other items of property from the residence.”

According to police, the duo forced entry into the residence and took $3,718 worth of items from the vacant resident while the victim was at work.

The district court hearing for Perry is in West Liberty next Tuesday, with Judge Rupert Wilhoit presiding, according to Crase.

Both McCarty and Perry are charged with burglary first-degree which is a Class-B felony. Perry is lodged in Rowan County. No information was available on McCarty. The incident is still under investigation by Crase.

With the burglary investigation, Crase gives some advice to help protect people against break-ins.

“A lot of people are not locking their vehicles at home because they are at ease,” Crase said. “People are just walking down the road going through vehicles. The perpetrators are looking for easy thefts in open vehicles and that gives them the opportunity, especially in residential areas where houses are cramped together. I encourage people to lock their vehicles.”
