Car stolen, sold for scrap metal
A two-hour search for a stolen car by the Morehead Police Department ended up at scrap metal yard.
On Dec. 14 at 8:30 p.m., the MPD was contacted after the victim, whose name was not released, loaned her 2003 Chevy Cavalier to a friend and then called the police when the car was not returned.
The victim had called Tosha R. Wright, 31, of Morehead who was in the Carter County Detention Center at the time. Wright claimed she ran out of gas and called a tow company but was unsure where the car was towed.
Police then called the suspect’s sister and she told authorities she had picked up Wright from Lawrence’s Recycling in Rowan County.
According to police, Wright sold the car to Lawrence’s Recycling. Officers found the car at 10:19 p.m. at the recycling center and officials there said it was sold to them for $180 for scrap.
The vehicle was returned to its owner in good condition before it was scrapped.
Wright is lodged in the Carter County jail on other charges.
The incident is under investigation by MPD officer Ben Castle.
