A Morehead man has been arrested for trying to pawn allegedly stolen tools.
Morehead police said off-duty Officer Wes Coldiron saw Robert W. Hatfield, 31, of Mountain View Apartments, at Rob's Gun and Pawn in Morehead on Oct. 2.
Coldiron believed there was an active warrant against Hatfield so he called MPD Officer Mark Hammonds who stopped Hatfield outside the pawn shop.
Hatfield confirmed there was an active warrant against him and told Hammonds he was trying to pawn a generator.
Pawn shop staff told Hammonds that Hatfield had asked about pawning some tools and a leaf blower. Hammonds then saw the leaf blower in Hatfield’s vehicle and searched it after the suspect gave consent.
Police had not received any reports of theft of a leaf blower or tools but the tools were in their original package, according to the arrest citation.
After Hammonds told Hatfield about evidence against him on another theft case, Hatfield allegedly admitted to stealing the tools from Advance Auto Parts and the leaf blower out of the back of a green Dodge pickup pulling an all-terrain vehicle at the Morehead Rite-Aid.
Hatfield was charged with receiving stolen property under $10,000. He was lodged in the Rowan County Detention Center.
